Welcome to Kaluk Homestay & cottages, where you can dwell in nature in the privacy of our cottages -- but with the warmth of home. Here you enjoy clean and natural beauty in a quiet forest village in the mountains of West Sikkim. Our Homestay has an organic farm and provides an authentic travel experience of traditional Sikkimese tribal cottages - with modern amenenities - giving you privacy, comfort and solitude.  

Located in Kaluk, conveniently between Darjeeling (42KM) and Pelling (35 KM), experience more than the typical tourist cities. Get a taste of unique and traditional Sikimese life - a tribal mountain village with 1,000 people, living at 1,800m above sea level.

When you are not relaxing - enjoy trekking, walking, and mountain biking thru valleys and mountains. Admire green and rolling mountain valleys, pine forests, rivers, and 2 waterfalls. Additionally, the area is rich cardamom and fruit orchards- many guests love touring local farms and fruit orchards who specialize in fruit wine and wild honey. You can also enjoy our Traditional spa (MENCHU) hot stone water bath. 

ACTIVITIES:

HIKING: A guided moderate hike thru beautiful valleys filled with streams, two waterfalls, traditional tribal houses,  cardamom fields, pine forests, and scenic views.

RAMEY DHAM SUN RISE: Ramey Dham is an excellent place from which to watch the magnificent sunrise over the stunning Kanchendzonga mountain range. (3 hour trek)

FRUIT ORCHARD TOURS: many guests love touring local orchards (peach, avocado, kiwi, plum)

VILLAGE & VALLEY WALKS: No plans, no guides, no worries. Just simple walk and wander quiet and clean mountain roads admiring beautiful scenic valleys.

MENCHU (TRADITIONAL SPA): A traditional ethnic hot stone bath (menchu) using herbs locally grown and cultivated from surrounding forests. Menchu (meaning medicinal water in Bhutia), is used for soothing the nerves, body ache and joint pain. (duration 4 to 5 hours).

HERITAGE HOUSES: Admire the simple farm life of villagers living in Tribal houses of Bhutia, Lepcha, Limboo and Nepali tribes of Sikkim.

MOUNTAIN BIKING: The owner’s favorite sport, get a local tour of forest and back country roads. (Cycles are available to rent at the home stay.)

HAMMOCK TIME: many guests just want Shanti Shanti. Sit back in our garden hammocks with a good book and relax.

BIRD WATCHING: The Sribadam forest is a playground for bird watching enthusiasts, home to a wide variety of bird species.

CHAM DANCE: During December/January one can enjoy festival of Phurpa tordo puja and authentic Cham Dance (Mask Dance) at a local monastery.

PHUNTSOK CHOELING MONASTERY: This monastery conducts meditational practices during the rainy season in the month of June, July for a period of 2 weeks. It is popular with people from Sikkim bur also attracts people from neighbouring  Nepal and Bhutan. The monastery is also well known for healing people from any kind of sickness, relief from ailments are achieved through religious rituals and practices.

THE NYINGMAPA PALYUL DECHEN GAWELLNG MONASTERY:  This monastery is famous for its festival of Phurpa Tordo Puja and authentic Cham Dance (Mask Dance) which is performed during the month of December/ January every year.

LODGING:

Our Homestay & Cottages welcomes guests to experience traditional Sikkimese lifestyle through food, lodging, and culture. Guest appreciate the comfort and privacy of their own cottage WITH the comforting warmth of home. Enjoy a unique travel experience and sleep in a traditional Bhutia, Lepcha and Subba tribal hut. Each cottage hut has an ensuit bathroom with hot water, a television and a double bed. We have communal family meals with food prepared freshly from our organic garden. 

Our aim is to emphasize ethnic, village, and responsible tourism which focus on the conservation and preservation of Sikkimese tribal traditions. Established in 2013 it is the only home stay in Sribadam. This is a family run home stay. 

FOOD

The food that we serve to guests is traditionally Sikkimese; Cowrie (a warming winter soup with wheat shells) Momo’s (dumplings) Gyathuk (meat or vegetable soup). However, we can also cater for other non vegetarian and vegetarian diets. Many of the ingredients for our meals are organically produced on the home stay farm such as  fresh milk, eggs, and vegetables.
